Faculty

Jeff Leek

Jeff is a Professor of Biostatistics and Oncology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His research focuses on public health genomics, data science as a science, and research on the scientific literature. He is also co-creator of the Johns Hopkins Data Science Specialization on Coursera (https://www.coursera.org/specializations/jhu-data-science) that has enrolled over 4 million. He is a co-editor of the journal Biostatistics. He writes a blog at Simply Statistics and is the co-director of the Johns Hopkins Data Science Lab.

Affiliated Faculty

Kai Kammers

Kai is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Department of Oncology at the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Research Center. His research focused on statistical methods development and analysis of genomic data from high-throughput sequencing and proteomic technologies. He is also a conributor to our group’s recount project.

Leah Jager

Leah is an Assistant Scientist in the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her research focuses on experiments to understand the way that people analyze data through our human-data interaction projects. Along with Margaret she teaches the largest undergraduate biostatistics courses at Johns Hopkins.

Margaret Taub

Margaret is an Assistant Scientist in the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She works on methods development in statistical genetics and on analysis problems for high-throughput genomics data, including methylation array data and re-sequencing data. She is also a conributor to our group’s recount project.

Postdocs

Shannon Ellis

Shannon is a postdoctoral fellow in the biostatistics department at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She has been working with the data in our group’s recount project to build phenotype predictors capable of accurately predicting tissue, sex, and age. She is a curriculum lead for our Chromebook Data Science program.

Aboozar Hadavand

Aboozar is a postdoctoral fellow in the biostatistics department at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His research involves analyzing MOOC data and studying the effectiveness of our new Chromebook Data Science job training program in Baltimore, MD.

Lucy D’Agostino McGowan

Lucy is a postdoctoral fellow in the biostatistics department at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is working on statistical methods for large-scale observational data, including data from electronic medical records. She also blogs at http://livefreeordichotomize.com/.

Students

Jack Fu

Jack is a PhD student in the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. He works on projects involving evaluating and developing methods for the analysis of RNASeq data – in particular understanding the variability of transcript assembly and expression quantification. He also works with Robert Scharpf and Ingo Ruczinski on designing a pipeline for the identification of CNVs in disease subpopulations in a familial sharing context.

Leslie Myint

Leslie is a PhD student in the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. She works on large scale experiments on human-data interaction through massive online open courses. She also works with Kasper Hansen on methodologies for metabolomics and epigenetics. Leslie blogs at https://lesliemyint.wordpress.com/.

Siruo Wang

Siruo is a PhD student in the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. She works on problems related to predicting genotypes from high-throughput RNA-sequencing data and statistical methods for inference after prediction.

Kayode Sosina

Kayode is a PhD student in the Department of Biostatistics at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. In our group he is working on developing methods for artifact correction in expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL) studies.
